This page highlights the various SmartNews ad inventory types. Different ad placements affect where and how SmartNews users will discover your message. Because ad templates are natively integrated with publisher content, SmartNews ads offer a more seamless experience than traditional banner or interstitial ads.

Standard Ads created through Ads Manager are automatically assigned a display template based on user activity. Each template supports image, video, and carousel ad formats. You only need to provide one set of creatives for all templates.

Each HTML template is rendered locally on users’ devices for better performance.

ChannelView

ChannelView ads are native advertisements that appear alongside articles under each category tab.

These ads integrate cohesively with content as users browse and gather information.

SmartView

SmartView delivers in-article advertisements through SmartNews’ article renderer.

These ads appear when users shift from browsing content to actively reading articles.

SmartView includes several placement locations within an article, such as under the main headline, inline with paragraphs, and at the bottom of the article.

Note

  • Line breaks in ad headlines and descriptions are automatically inserted based on the user’s display settings. Manual line breaks cannot be set in ad copy.
  • Your bid settings and budget do not affect whether ads appear in ChannelView or SmartView.
  • Ad descriptions only appear in SmartView (article view).
  • When ad descriptions and headlines are identical, the description will be omitted to avoid repetition.
  • Custom placement selection will be available for US accounts in the future, but is not currently supported.
